The Roseto displays more than a thousand varieties of botanical roses, ancient and modern, from all over the world. The cultivated specimens come from world sources, the Far East and South Africa, Old Europe and New Zealand, passing through the Americas. There are primordial species, or “botanical roses” dating back to 40 million years ago, very precious and little known, collected together with the “old roses” of great originality and beauty.
The Roseto hosts the International Rome Prize Competition, reserved for the most beautiful new varieties of roses and takes place every year in May. The Prize opens the international season dedicated to the cultivation of this flower and it is a renown event in worldwide botany.
